Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Style queen from Benton County, Eleanor Burke, State Fair

Clothing projects attracted many girls to 4-H Club membership in the 1930s. Learning to sew stretched depression-scarce clothing allowances, and encouraged creativity. To win a prize at the county fair was exciting, but to be named "4-H Style Queen" was the utlimate goal. Eleanor Burke, pictured here, was named Style Queen at the Benton County Fair in 1935, and advanced to the State competition.
