The development of suburban neighborhood shopping centers helped to lure other businesses to the area. Miracle Mile center in St. Louis Park, shown in this aerial view photograph taken in 1956, helped to encourage the growth of other businesses along Excelsior Boulevard (running horizontally along the bottom of the picture) and Wooddale Avenue. Martha Dougthy, whose family lived just a few block southwest of Miracle Mile, remembered taking her children to a health clinic nearby in the 1950s.
