Ancher Nelsen with President Dwight Eisenhower

Ancher Nelsen (1904-1992) was a strong ally for the pre-veterinary students in their quest for a veterinary school at the U of M. A farmer from Hutchinson, Minnesota, he served as a state senator for the 22nd district from 1935-1948. He was a Minnesota delegate to the National Republican Convention in 1948, 1952, 1964, and was an alternate in 1960. After serving as Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota from 1953-1954, he made an unsuccessful bid for the Governor's office in 1956. Ancher Nelsen was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1959, and remained in office unil 1975.
