Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Letter from William Anderson to his parents, December 7, 1941

Patriotism swept the country when the news broke of the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. Young men who had joined the National Guard or enlisted during the peacetime conscription were among those most determined to see their country through the coming conflict.

William L. (Bill) Anderson, a member of the Minnesota National Guard, was at Fort Sam Houston when the declaration of war was announced, and sent this letter home to his family in Minneapolis.
