Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Wilbert L. Bartlett, en route to France, November 1945.

Wilbert L. Bartlett was sent to France in November 1945 with an Engineer Aviation Battalion to finish work on airfields near Marseilles. He remembered the trip across the Atlantic in a Liberty ship as a "pretty miserable trip," with rough seas and poor food. He returned to the United States the following April.

This photograph of Mr. Bartlett was taken on the deck of the ship while en route to France.
