Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Marian Maxson and sewing club friends on a bicycle ride, 1930s

Just like today, suburban residents of the post-war years often turned to their bicycles for transportation and recreation. Marian Maxson of Richfield remembered riding her bicycle or walking to the shopping district at 66th and Penn.

Riding a bike was nothing new to Marian, pictured here with her sewing club friends in the late-1930s following a bicycle ride around Lake Nokomis.
