John L. Brown, Sr. demonstrates a typewriter for two customers

Brown's Office Machines was one of the first African American owned office machines companies in the Twin Cities. Begun on a shoestring budget in 1951, owner John L. Brown, Sr. successfully built up a clientele of loyal customers and was able to offer a range of brand-name equipment. The St. Paul company closed in 1998 following a merger with Wager's Business Systems.
