CG-4A glider in flight

The CG-4A gliders were just over 48 feet long with an 83-foot, 8-inch wingspan. They could be towed at a maximum speed of 150 miles per hour, and had a fully loaded glide speed of between 60 and 85 miles per hour.

This photograph shows a CG-4A in the air. The barely visible nylon towline is still attached. once released, the glider had a rate of descent of approximately 400 feet per minute, and for an ideal landing required 600 to 800 feet of open space.
