Chinese-Japanese language character cards used during WWII

This box of Chinese-Japanese character cards was used by Toshio Abe in training at the U.S. Military Intelligence Service Language School in Savage, Minnesota. The set consists of rectangular cards with Chinese and Japanese characters on obverse with English translation on reverse. The paper label on the box reads: "CHINESE-JAPANESE / CHARACTER CARDS / Characters of Everyday Use Selected by Frequency of Occurrence / SERIES I (First 500) / by N. Naganuma.
