Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Group of children at Harriet School depositing money in savings

Minnesota's Greatest Generation learned a hard lesson in economics while growing up in the Great Depression, but many children also learned the importance of "saving for a rainy day" from their families or at school. This photograph shows a group of children at Harriet School in Minneapolis depositing money in their savings accounts. The picture was taken as part of an advertising campaign by Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank to promote savings programs for children.
