Contour plowing is a method of cultivating that follows the natural lay of the land, curving around hills, rather than plowing straight furrows up and down. This method creates ridges, which hold topsoil and seeds in place, helping to prevent water erosion of soil. This photograph shows contour plowing near Millville in Wabasha County, 1937.
