Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Among the developers who helped build the suburbs during the 1950s were the Dayton brothers, whose corporation built Southdale in 1956, and encouraged the addition of the Fairview Southdale Hospital nearby.

Donald C. Dayton (1914-1989), senior partner in the Dayton Corporation, is on the far right in this 1950 photograph taken in front of the Dayton's exhibit at the State Fair grounds. Pictured with Mr. Dayton are (left to right): George Grim, Harry A. Bullis, Gene Wilkey, and Governor Luther Youngdahl.
