Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Doris Hansen helps with the milking on the family farm, 1935.

Minnesota was a strong dairy state during the 1930s. For children growing up on dairy farms, helping with the milking, feeding the cows, and cleaning out the barn were familiar daily chores. Doris Hansen, pictured here, grew up on her family's farm near Worthington, Minnesota. Her experience on the farm gave her an advantage when participating in 4-H dairying activities.
