Once the war was over, soldiers had to wait until they had racked up enough points for discharge. Those with several years in service and in combat overseas were the first to return home. Others, like Bill Cameron, who joined the service late in the war and didn't see combat, had to wait for more than a year for discharge.
This photograph, taken in an amusement park on the East coast, was taken in 1946, shortly before Bill's discharge from the Army.
