A new golden age of consumerism began with the end of the war. Minnesotans were eager to obtain both necessary and luxury items that had been scarce during the war years.
This photograph, taken in 1956, shows a "Daisy Sale" window display at Dayton's Minneapolis department store. It features many items designed for summertime leisure: television sets, electric fans, a picnic basket, a hammock, and a lawn chair.
