Minnesota's Greatest Generation

General Electric kitchen appliances on Dayton's sales floor

Many appliances were difficult to come by during World War II as manufacturing turned its attention to the war effort and materials were diverted to that purpose. Once the war was over, people were eager to embrace the good life that the stronger economy promised, and flocked to stores offering new, time-saving appliances, like those shown in this 1957 display at Dayton's Department Store. This photograph shows a display of electric kitchen appliances at Dayton's Department Store.
