Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Anne Bosanko Green in uniform, Minneapolis, 1945

Those in military service during World War II, many away from home for the first time, longed for a chance to go home on leave. Anne Bosanko Green was sent from basic training at Fort Des Moines, Iowa to William Beaumont General Hospital, Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas to La Garde General Hospital in New Orleans before obtaining a leave to return to Minnesota. When she was reassigned to Birmingham General Hospital in Van Nuys, California in March 1945, she was granted a delay-on-route that would allow her "eight or nine days at home."
