Dust storm descending on downtown Minneapolis

Dust storms were an ominous sign of the drought during the Great Depression. This photograph shows a dust storm approaching the city of Minneapolis, which had been hit by five such storms on a single day in 1938. The photographer reported that "traffic was paralyzed, street cars & automobiles crept and one could not see across the streets...lights on street cars and autos and office[s] were on."
