Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Reversible board games, including checkers

Board games became increasingly popular in the 1930s. Families anxious to escape the troubles of the Great Depression enjoyed the inexpensive fun and fantasy found in game play. Monopoly--still the best-selling board game in the world--debuted in 1935. This pictured board is particularly efficient, with a design to accomodate checkers, dice, parcheesi and spinner games.
