Glider crash landing

With only minimal controls, every glider landing was essentially a controlled crash landing. Many gliders missed their target landing areas, hitting trees, buildings or other obstacles, or crashed from anti-aircraft fire. Many lives were lost in glider operations, which earned the flimsy aircraft the nickname "Flying Coffins."
