The harvest was a time for all able-bodied members of a farm family to pitch in to get the crops cut and ready for market, or safely stored for the winter. Even the youngest members of this family are in the field, lending a hand. Harvesting with horses and horse-drawn binders, as shown in this photograph, was still a common method in Minnesota during the 1920s and 1930s.
