Hauling wood by horse-drawn sleigh on farm in Meeker County

Hauling wood was an important farm chore during the Great Depression. Many farm families still heated their homes and cooked their meals with woodburning stoves. Farm children helped by carrying the wood into the house from the woodpile. The Magnus Johnson family of Meeker County used the horses and sled pictured here to bring the cut wood to the farmyard in 1932.
