Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Haying near Blackduck

Hay was an important crop to farmers who used horsepower to run their farms, and had herds of cattle to feed. This picture shows a horse-drawn haywagon being pulled through a mown field as the farmers pitch the small stacks of dried hay onto the wagon. Children were often put to work, helping to rake the hay into windrows or piles.
