Twin Cities airports played important roles in defense production during World War II. Wold-Chamberlain Field in Minneapolis (now Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport) was the site of a glider factory for Northwest Aeronautical Corporation, and St. Paul's Holman Field, shown here in a 1944 aerial photograph, housed Northwest Airlines' B-24 Bomber Modification Center.
