Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Crowd at the Hub Shopping Center, Richfield.

The Hub shopping center, which opened on February 18, 1954 with 32 shops, was at the time the largest shopping center of its kind in the Twin Cities. Conveniently located at 66th and Nicollet Avenue, it quickly became a favorite destination for Richfieldians for one-stop shopping, with such stores as Klein Foods, Walgreen's Drugs, and a J.C. Penney store.

This photograph, taken in 1954, shows an enthusiastic crowd of shoppers.
