Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Lee and Ed Sworsky, 1946

When Lee Eccles met American G.I. Ed Sworsky in England, her parents, who were concerned about the reputation of American soldiers, said she could bring him home if he was "a nice quiet one." Lee's father immediately took to his future son-in-law, whom he called "a nice chap", though Lee's mother, who did not want her daughter to emigrate to America, was harder to convince. Lee and Ed are pictured here in a photograph taken in 1946.
