Mae West Life Vest

Navy pilots and flight crews had different types of safety equipment available to them, including the "Mae West" style life preserver. The life vest consisted of inflatable rubber bladders covered in khaki colored cotton. Allied soldiers called the vest the "Mae West" because of its resemblence to the film star's buxom figure.
