Stuart A. Lindman's father became one of the first members of the local Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) chapter after World War I. Stuart recalled the family participating in D.A.V. activities while he was growing up. When he was wounded in action on Okinawa, sustaining 26 shrapnel hits, he remembered thinking, "I’ll be able to go to Disabled Veterans with dad now."
Stuart's father passed away before his son returned from the war, but Stuart became a member of the local chapter of the D.A.V. immediately upon coming home. He was elected Chapter Commander, State Commander and, finally, the National Vice Commander.
