The Manhattan Project was a collective effort of many of the best minds in science and the military to create the world's first atomic bomb. Different parts of the project were scattered around the United States. The laboratory where the bomb would be designed and built required a secure location. Los Alamos, the site of a former school for boys located high in the mountains of New Mexico, provided the ideal setting.
