Temporary housing communities popped up in cities across the country to help alleviate the housing shortage in post-World War II America. This photograph shows very basic, makeshift houses placed along Fillmore Street Northeast in Minneapolis. A young family could live in temporary housing for a year or more, waiting for a more permanent home to become available.
