Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Millie Bowers, 1943

Small-town girl Millie Bowers was one of thousands of Minnesotans who were employed in the defense industries located in the Twin Cities during World War II. She worked as a real-life "Rosie the Riveter" at the B-24 bomber modification center at Holman Field in St. Paul. This photograph was taken in 1943, the year Millie joined the wartime workforce.
