Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Millie Bowers Johnson in coveralls, 1943

Millie Bowers Johnson, a native of Bell Creek, Minnesota, took a job in February 1943 with Northwest Airlines at the B-24 modification center located at Holman Field in St. Paul. Millie remembered that about 40% of the work crew at the center were women. She was assigned to a crew of six, with one other woman and four men. She left the job to move to Northfield in late 1943.

She is shown here wearing the coveralls that she wore to work each day.
