University of Minnesota President James Morrill did not support the pre-veterinary students' efforts to start up a veterinary school, citing critical budget concerns as the reason. He proposed an agreement with veterinary schools in Wisconsin and Michigan that would enable a few Minnesota students to enroll in their programs as an alternative.
Dr. Morrill (in the center of this photograph) was the 8th president of the University of Minnesota, and served from 1945 until 1960.
