Letters from Jo Downey to her family from the Pacific Theater

Many young Minnesotans found in war service an opportunity to see more of the world than they ever dreamed possible. Josephine (Jo) Downey, a member of the Women's Army Corps, was stationed in the Pacific Theater of Operations, first on New Guinea, then in the Philippines. Her first impressions of her new surroundings were summed up in the first word of her first letter home: "Paradise!"
