B.J. Gersey (standing) at her post as air traffic controller

Radioman First Class Elizabeth (B.J.) Hughes Gersey served as an air traffic controller while stationed at JAX Naval Air Station (Jacksonville, Florida). B.J. is very proud that she was able to "free a man to fight" by filling this position.

This photograph, which appeared in the October 1944 issue of Flying magazine, shows B.J. at her post in the control tower.
