Minnesota's Greatest Generation

"Avenge December 7"

The Japanese Admiral Isoruku Yamamoto, strategist behind the December 7, 1941 air strike on Pearl Harbor, was quoted after the attack as saying "All we have done is to waken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

The attack shocked and angered Americans, and such slogans as "Avenge December 7" became the battle cry as the U.S. entered the war.
