Minnesota's Greatest Generation

View of housing development near farm, 66th & Penn Ave. South

Many Richfield residents of the post-war era remembered looking out the windows of their newly built tract homes and seeing farm fields. Throughout the 1950s and 1960s housing development in Richfield continued at a rapid pace, gobbling up farms and expanding the urban landscape south of Minneapolis.

This photograph from 1954 shows the encroachment of housing near a farmer's land.
