Minnesota's Greatest Generation

McGuire Brothers threshing outfit

Threshing rigs - the large threshing machines and powerful steam traction engines needed to run them - were expensive pieces of equipment. Owners of threshing rigs would travel the countryside with a crew of men, stopping at farms where they were hired to help with the harvest. Crops of small grains, like wheat, barley, oats, and rye were cut, bundled, and tossed from wagons into the thresher, which separated the grain from the chaff, or straw. This rig belonged to the McGuire Brothers, who were active in the 1930s.
