Minnesota's Greatest Generation

"Americans! Share the Meat,"1942.

Meat was one of the most difficult grocery items to obtain during World War II. Much of the available supply was being diverted by the government to US and allied troops abroad, which meant less for those on the home front. This poster reminded shoppers to do their patriotic duty and stay within the rationed amounts: 2½ pounds per adult, 1½ pounds per child, 6 to 12 years old, and ¾ pound per child under 6 years old. The poster also listed unrationed meats - liver, kidneys, fish and poultry - that could be used to supplement a family's diet.
