The Baby Boom threw local governments throughout the state into turmoil as they wrestled with the need for new school buildings and additional classrooms to accommodate the anticipated flood of new students in the 1950s and early 1960s. The Bureau of Field Studies and Surveys in the College of Education at the University of Minnesota assisted many communities around Minnesota with in-depth studies showing the need for school facilities to help local authorities make informed decisions.
The study highlighted here was undertaken for the St. Louis Park Board of Education in 1953. It contains information about recent population changes in the school district, projected enrollments and the number of classrooms needed, maps showing distribution of students of various ages throughout the district, and financial statistics.
