John S. and Georgiana Kippels Sonnen Correspondence

St. Paul native John S. Sonnen married Georgiana Kippels in 1939. By the time John left for the service the couple had a young son. The Sonnens kept their relationship strong during the long separation through frequent, lengthy letters, both while John was stationed stateside and after he shipped out for Europe.

The Sonnens saved more than 1100 letters written during the war. The letters chronicle the thoughts and experiences of John in the Army, and Georgiana and son, Stuart, on the home front. Those shared here were written while John was stationed at Camp Stewart in Georgia.
