Minnesota's Greatest Generation

1947 Studebaker

The Studebaker company, which began as a wagon manufacturer before the Civil War, produced automobiles from 1902 until 1963. This photograph shows a 1947 Starlight Coupe, which featured a wrap-around rear window.

Martha Doughty and her neighbor, whose husbands drove the family cars, jointly purchased "an old Studebaker" in the mid-1950s that they affectionately nicknamed "The Rutabaga" to use for errands and chauffering the kids to school.
