Minneapolis native Bertha L. Corbett published the first edition of The Sun-bonnet Babies in 1900. The book, with its clever rhymes and whimsical ink drawings of children wearing large sunbonnets, was a success. A reading primer edition was published in 1902, and other editions followed. Miss Corbett's charming sun-bonnet babies continue to be popular today as quilt motifs.
Gloria Huffman Sinell recalled using the Sun-bonnet Babies Primer while attending rural school in Sibley County. The book shown here is the original 1900 edition.
