Bus transportation replaced the aging streetcar system in the Twin Cities in the summer of 1954. A fleet of new buses purchased from General Motors, like the one shown here, provided a more modern mode of public transportation to local residents, but the routes did not extend into the suburbs, some of which began their own local bus services.
