Defense plants, like the Twin Cities Ordnance Plant in Arden Hills, produced monthly employee newsletters to share information, build a community spirit among their workers and boost morale.

The "Twin Cities Ordnance News" featured articles about such home front war efforts as scrap drives and rationing, as well as employee profiles, safety tips, and feature articles. in the October 9, 1942 issue the newletter reported on a surprise inspection visit from President Franklin D. Roosevelt, accompanied by Minnesota Governor, Harold Stassen.
