The Terp Ballroom in Austin, Minnesota was built in 1937 as part of the chain that included the Prom Ballroom (built 1941) and Surf Ballroom(built 1933, burned in 1947 and rebuilt in 1948). The venue hosted many popular big band acts until it was destroyed by fire on Thanksgiving Day in 1945.
