Jim and Rose Totino opened their small Italian take-out restaurant at 523 Central Avenue in Minneapolis in 1951 with $1,500 they had borrowed from the bank, using their car as collateral for the loan. The restaurant continued to serve customers at the Central Avenue address until August 2007, when it moved to a new location in Mounds View. The new restaurant, now under the direction of Rose's daughter, Joanne Totino Elwell and her son, Steve, opened for business in March 2008.
