View of CG-4A gliders from a C-47 transport plane, 1944

Motorless gliders were towed on long nylon towlines behind C-47 transport planes. This photograph of a glider in the air was taken from the tow plane while en route to Southern France for the invasion in August 1944. Additional C-47s and gliders can be seen in the distance.
