Minneapolis building contractors saw opportunity in the housing shortage following World War II. They snapped up land on the outskirts of the Twin Cities and built large tracts of modest, affordable homes.

This photograph shows new tract homes built near Wood Lake and Penn Avenue South in the Minneapolis suburb of Richfield.
