Minnesota's Greatest Generation

Japanese translators at Fort Snelling, 1945

The Japanese American soldiers stationed at the Military Intelligence Service Language School at Fort Snelling were given an intensive training course in Japanese military language. This photograph shows a group of students surrounded by a sea of books and other study materials.

While the students' days were filled with classes and study time, life at the MISLS wasn't all work; they were also able to take advantage of the many recreational opportunities offered by the Fort.
